In 1863, Martha Jane travels with her family in a wagon train heading west across the United States. When her father is injured, she must learn to drive the wagon and take care of the horses.
Refusing to conform to the conventions imposed on girls of her time, Martha Jane gradually asserts her independence and becomes the legendary Calamity Jane.
