Otvoren NSFF: Mira Banjac i Džon Sevidž laureati

Mira Banjac and John Savage laureates of the Novi Sad Film Festival

Sep 23, 2023

Novi Sad Film Festival, a new international film festival that will bring together actors, directors, and other film professionals from four continents over the course of four days, opened last night at the Serbian National Theater.

„Dok sam gledao filmove, uživao sam u svakom trenutku ovih krajnje različitih umetničkih dela i u specifičnostima autorskih izraza njihovih stvaralaca.

It was an exciting and magnificent night. The actress Nina Seničar, who hosted the opening and formally announced a fresh beginning, contributed to the wonderful atmosphere as well. Awards have also been given out: actor John Savage was the foreign laureate, while actress Mira Banjac was recognized for her contributions to national cinematography. After the ceremony, the audience watched the multiple award-winning film "El Santo" by Agustin Carbonere. This was part of the Novi Sad Film Festival and was the film's first international showing. This time, Carbonere made the point that he had never imagined traveling to an amazing location like Novi Sad when he began work on the movie.

"I think festivals like this are a great thing because we can get feedback from different people belonging to cultures that I don't know, we can connect, get to know each other and maybe work together." When we received the invitation to the festival, we were delighted because we believed Novi Sad would be interested in watching our project, said Carbonere.

The films that the public will see in the next few days are wonderful discoveries, according to program selector Nikola Spasić, who is happy to have the chance to share his love of movies with everyone.

"I thoroughly loved every second of these wildly diverse pieces of art and the complexity of the authors' expressions of their artists while I watched the films. I am looking forward to the fact that Novi Sad will live and breathe as a film city in the coming days, and I wish that this spirit remains and lives throughout the year," said Spasić. The Novi Sad Film Festival, according to festival director Vanja Hovan, "opens new spaces in the film offer of the City of Novi Sad."

"Among the rich heritage of previous and some future film festivals, NSFF is looking for its space through communication with international filmmakers and through programs freed from classic festival forms." As a result, in addition to the essential screening component, the NSFF encourages an atmosphere for the film industry program and a more formal flow of ideas and direct filmmaker collaboration with, well, all of the world's meridians. This may sound pretentious," Hovan pointed out.

The public will be able to see previously unreleased international original films, eco-films, homage to cult directors, and other film projects as part of the Novi Sad Film Festival through September 24.

On the Program Today

Great achievements including the special screenings of "Le Prince des Mers," "Pensive," "Progesteror(n)," "The Winter of One Spring," "August 2nd," "Guguto Memeto," and "Alphaville" are scheduled for the festival's second day.

Panel discussions will also take place in the Novi Sad Cultural Center today, as one of the main objectives of the Novi Sad Film Festival is to establish connections between film production studios, animation and visual effects studios, IT specialists, directors, screenwriters, producers, distributors, and the entire film industry. Film workers from all over the world are coming to Novi Sad to attend "Visual effects in the film industry," "Cinematics," and Mahnwoo Kwon, a representative of the renowned Busan Content Market. Mahnwoo Kwon is the leader of one of the largest international platforms that deals with the promotion and exchange of film, television, animated, and other content, and he also fosters cooperation.
The music program, featuring a performance by DJ Dejan Milićević and the Belgrade band Vrooom, will also be enjoyed by the audience tonight.
