Gavrik je bio filmski i televizijski scenograf, koji se bavio i scenografijom muzičkih spektakala, video-spotova, izložbi i drugih. Godine 1972. zajedno sa grupom scenografa filma Nikolaj i Aleksandra dobio je Oskara za najbolju scenografiju.
Karijeru scenografa započeo je u Zvezda filmu u Beogradu, a usavršavao se u Parizu gde je sarađivao sa Leonom Barsakom, jednim od najpoznatijih svetskih filmskih scenografa. Pored Pariza, stručno se usavršavao i u Nemačkoj. Tvorac je scenografija za više od 84 domaća i strana dugometražna igrana filma i12 TV-serija, a prvu samostalnu scenografiju realizovao je 1952. godine, za domaći film Daleko je sunce, rađenom prema scenariju Dobrice Ćosića.
Tako je, sa svoje 24 godine, postao i najmlađi scenograf u jugoslovenskoj filmskoj industriji. Među najistaknutijim u karijeri izdvajaju se filmovi i serije Crni bombarder, Derviš i smrt, Majstor i Margarita, Bekstvo iz Sobibora, Srećni ljudi, Porodično blago. Odlikovan je brojnim priznanjima: Ordenom zasluga za narod sa srebrnim zracima (1980), potom priznanjima ULUPUDS-a, diplomom Jugoslovenske kinoteke, a nominovan je i za EMI američku nagradu za televizijsku umetnost.
Gavrik was a film and television production designer who also worked on stage designs for music spectacles, music videos, exhibitions, and other events. In 1972, together with a group of designers for the film Nicholas and Alexandra, he won an Oscar for Best Art Direction.
He began his career as a set designer at Zvezda Film in Belgrade and later honed his craft in Paris, where he collaborated with Léon Barsacq, one of the world’s most renowned production designers. In addition to Paris, he also trained professionally in Germany. He created set designs for over 84 domestic and international feature films and 12 TV series. His first independent set design was in 1952 for the Yugoslav film Far Away Is the Sun, based on a screenplay by Dobrica Ćosić.
At the age of 24, he became the youngest set designer in the Yugoslav film industry. Some of the most notable works in his career include the films and series Black Bomber, The Dervish and Death, Master and Margarita, Escape from Sobibor, Happy People, and Family Treasure. He received numerous awards and honors, including the Order of Merit for the People with Silver Rays (1980), recognition from ULUPUDS, a diploma from the Yugoslav Film Archive, and a nomination for the American Emmy Award for Television Arts.
