At the height of World War II in Yugoslavia, a persecuted young boy, fleeing a fascist unit that has killed his parents and burned down his village, finds temporary refuge in the home of a complete stranger, a man named Nur Doka. A deep divide separates them: the boy is an Orthodox Christian, while Nur is Muslim — a distinction that, in the circumstances in which the film takes place, marks a thin line between life and death.

Nur faces a profound moral dilemma when his home comes under armed pressure and siege. He must choose between saving the boy’s life and preserving his own integrity, or risking the safety of his family as armed pursuers close in, in a desperate attempt to save a child of another faith and nationality. When all other options are exhausted, he is faced with a choice that will test not only his principles, but also shape his legacy. The question remains: what will Nur do?
