Competitive Selection

The Novi Sad Film Festival's main international competition selection presents the year's most successful feature films by directors from around the world. Even the youngest filmmakers will have the opportunity to demonstrate what filmmaking means to them and how amateurs build the groundwork for future professionals. Short films written by high school students will be shown at the "Laza Kostić" Gymnasium, which is the only one in Novi Sad that has a course dedicated to performing and audio-visual arts. This year's partner in the high school film selection is Converse.

The “Work in Progress” selection is dedicated to projects currently in the production or post-production phase, aimed at providing support for a successful finale. The largest money prize, in the amount of €10,000, sponsored by Schweppes, goes to ‘Rattlesnakes’ directed by Nikola Ljuca!

Mahnowoo Kwon, the director of the Busan Content Market, led the jury along with members Ena Rahelić and Milan Todorović. Below is the jury's explanation:

The story explores the journey of two individuals transitioning from intimacy to estrangement, ultimately reuniting on opposing sides, where business, politics and morals clash. Presented in a well-rounded and professional pitch, it tackles relevant social issues while transcending the strong regional co-production of the former Yugoslavian countries, enriched by a touch of the Mediterranean. Having evolved through a meticulous five-year financing process, with filming recently being wrapped, this cross-generational story stands to benefit the most from the award, with a promising outlook for a good festival circuit, as well as theatrical release, especially in the Region. The award goes to "Rattlesnakes" by Nikola Ljuca.

Game cinematics connects gaming and film and promotes cooperation between the IT scene and cinematography. With this international selection, we immediately open a space for the presentation, better acquaintance, and exchange of experiences of creators from the world of gaming and film; thus, the Novi Sad Film Festival follows world trends. As one of the most developed segments of the economy, the IT industry today is also an integral part of the film industry, which is why this program, since our first edition, has been an important part of the Novi Sad Film Festival.
