In the vast valleys and mountains of rural China, two twelve-year-old boys' separate journeys intersect in this coming-of-age story. Sangdan, traveling alone from his small village, is resolute in learning the art of butter sculpture from a far-away monastery. Tang Yu, an Internet-savvy boy from the city, runs away from his strict parents to avoid responsibility. When the two join paths, they decide to undertake a lengthy journey across the country and, in the process, learn new lessons about growing up.
